Elastothane Corrosion Resistant CoatingsElastothane Coatings protect against corrosion by creating a waterproof, chemical resistant layer that will not allow exposure to water or oxygen. Our coatings are 100% solids (no solvents) and won't chip, crack flake or peel, making them impenetrable to water or other chemicals. If damage to the coating does occur, the bond between the polyurea and the substrate will not allow corrosion to creep underneath surrounding areas of coating. Polyurea will strengthen and protect against corrosion giving longer life and less maintenance to every asset.
The dense cross-linked structure of polyurea creates a seamless monolithic barrier that will not allow exposure to water or oxygen. In accelerated salt fog tests, traditional paints allowed corrosion to develop, creep and de-laminated the coating, whereas polyurea remain impenetrable. With the addition of impact to the coating surface, breaches in the traditional paint left expose metal, unlike polyurea that withstood the impact without damage.
We have many test sites around the world, with several in the UK, where high levels of corrosion naturally occur. Costal installations offer great insight into the performance of polyurea and its corrosion protection capabilities, with a key test site being on the South Wales coat. Elastolone 6070 was applied to pier legs that are completely submerged at high tide, and totally dry at low tide, creating the ideal conditions for rust to develop. The steel structure was coated over 10 years ago, and still looks as good as new to this day.
We are often asked if we can apply our coatings for customers, however we feel that this would be directly in competition with our customers, and therefore don't offer that service. We have many independent applicators that are highly experienced and can offer in-house or on-site spraying of polyurea.
